The Excellence Scholarship & Opportunity Programme (ESOP) supports outstanding students interested in seeking a master’s degree at ETH Zurich, a public university for science and technology in Switzerland. The scholarship covers recipients’ full study and living costs during their chosen master’s degree course.
Students from all countries are eligible to apply.
During their master’s degree studies, the candidates will deepen their knowledge of their chosen academic discipline and specialise in one or more of its aspects. ETH Zurich offers both consecutive and specialised master’s degree programmes in fields within the following groups: Architecture & Civil Engineering, System-Oriented Natural Sciences, Natural Sciences & Mathematics, Management & Social Sciences and Engineering Sciences.
ETH Zurich ranks as one of the top international universities in the technical and scientific disciplines. Admission to its master’s degree programmes is highly selective. We are looking for applications from excellent bachelor’s degree graduates from universities comparable to ETH Zurich who meet the degree-specific requirement profiles.
The next scholarship application period will open on 1 November 2023.

Benefits
- Tuition fee waiver.
- Living and study expenses (12,000 Swiss francs per semester).
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be fluent in English.
- Have very good results in their bachelor’s degree programme (top 10 percent, grade A)
- Meet the degree-specific requirements of their chosen programme.
How to Apply
After the application window opens on 1 November 2023, please complete the following steps:
- Register and apply online via eApply.
- If you are applying for more than one master’s degree programme, please submit a separate application for each programme.
- In addition to the documents for your master’s degree application, you will need to upload a pre-proposal for your master thesis. See details here.
- If your study programme does not ask for references, you must name two reference persons (professors) for your ESOP application.
